![]() The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) just released a video about CAR-T treatment breakthrough. The video features Austin Scheutz, one of the early trial patients treated with CAR-T after chemotherapy and a bone marrow treatment failed to successfully beat back his leukemia. Watch the video HERE. CAR-T (Chimeric Antigen Receptor) uses a patient's own immune system to track down and kill cancer cells. T-cells, the body's immune cells are removed and reprogrammed using the HIV virus to recognize and target a patient's cancerous B-cells. This breakthrough treatment has had a significant positive impact on many patients. In Austin's case, he is cancer-free after all other treatments have failed. CAR-T research was supported by LLS funding. The trials were developed in Philadelphia and are now available in other cancer treatment centers, including the UW Carbone Cancer Center. Fundraising by the Lymphomaniacs supports research and patient services that would otherwise be unsupported. Thank you to all our supporters who are helping to save lives! Comments are closed.
