training rides
Overview
- Team rides start in early April, weather permitting.
- Routes are planned to cover terrain similar to Scenic Shore.
- Distances increase through the season and back-to-back training days are added later in the season to build strength and confidence that you can ride the two days of Scenic Shore.
- Riders must sign up for each ride so we can plan support. Sign up links will be sent via the team Google Group email list. Guests are permitted, especially if they are interested in learning more about the team and Scenic Shore. Team members are strongly encouraged to ride with their guests and introduce them to other team members.
- We try to have SAG support on all training rides. Riders should plan to carry tire repair supplies and tools and to have a fully charge phone with them.
- We provide free Ride With GPS team account access for team members. The RWGPS app provides turn-by-turn navigation for all team routes.
- Please consider doing SAG for a ride this season and/or recruiting a friend or family member. SAG drivers need to drive their own vehicle. We will provide a trunk-mounted bike rack if they do not have one.
- SAG drivers should plan to arrive at ride start 30 minutes prior to the start. Their role is to be available at points on the route to refill water bottles and provide bike & rider transport if needed (following COVID safety precautions).
- SAG is a fundraising opportunity. We ask team members to contribute $5 per ride to the SAG bucket. The SAG driver or the team member who recruits them, receives the proceeds as a fundraising donation. This is an easy way to raise $100 or more in a single day.
Ride with gps
- Team members receive access to our Ride With GPS (ridewithgps.com) team account. This provides turn-by-turn navigation cues and map for team routes. This is a free benefit of being a Lymphomaniac
- All team routes can be accessed for use at any time, not just during team training rides.
- Riders will receive a link to join the team account. Returning riders can continue to use their prior year account.
- Click this LINK for an overview of navigating with the RWGPS account.
team apparel
- Team members can order custom team jerseys. These are high quality biking jerseys in a variety of styles including Men's and Women's Sport Fit or Unisex/Club Fit (looser cut) in short sleeve or sleeveless versions. A racerback style is also available.
- Jerseys are custom-ordered from the manufacturer with delivery time of about 6-8 weeks. We place several group orders each season and recommend ordering in the first group if you want a jersey for spring rides.
- We also plan to offer additional apparel including cycling gloves, sun protection/cooling sleeves, arm warmers and possibly more. Some apparel orders must meet a minimum so availability is not guaranteed.
volunteering
The team and the Scenic Shore Bike Tour depend on the support of volunteers. These are great opportunities for family and friends to help your efforts. Opportunities include:
- SAG support for team training rides
- Rest stop volunteers during the Scenic Shore weekend
- Special team event volunteers
